Behringerr Xenyx 802, small mixer, for small online radio

If you need a mixer for your online radio, we recommend the Behringer Xenyx 802. It's a small, analog mixer that doesn't require a lot of money.

The mixer has: Input Channels, Channel Strip Controls (for Channels 1 & 2), FX Section, Output Section, Monitoring & Metering.

Input Channels:

  • 4 Xenyx microphone/line inputs:

    • Channels 1 & 2: Combo XLR (mic) and 1/4" Jack (line/instrument) inputs with dedicated +48V phantom power switch (for condenser mics).

    • Channels 3/4 & 5/6: 2 Stereo channels, each with two 1/4" Jack inputs (or RCA inputs for 5/6).

  • Total Input Sources: Effectively 8 (2 mono + 2 stereo pairs).

Channel Strip Controls (for Channels 1 & 2):

  • Xenyx Mic Preamplifier: High-quality, low-noise preamp for clean gain.

  • Gain Control: Adjusts the input level sensitivity.

  • 3-Band British EQ: A famous feature of the Xenyx series.

    • Low (Bass)

    • High (Treble)

    • Mid (Mid Frequency): Features a sweepable mid-range control (you select the frequency and then boost/cut it).

  • Aux Send (Pre-Fader): For sending a separate mix to monitors or external effects units.

  • Pan Potentiometer (Pan): Panning control for the stereo image.

  • Channel Fader: Level control for the channel.

FX Section:

  • Built-in Digital Effects Processor: With 16 different effects (reverbs, delays, modulations).

  • FX Send Control: Determines the level of effect sent from the master section to the processor.

  • FX Amount per Channel: Each channel has a knob to control how much of the effect is applied to it.

Output Section:

  • Main Mix Outputs: Balanced XLR and unbalanced 1/4" Jack outputs.

  • CTRL ROOM Outputs: Separate control room outputs (1/4" Jack).

  • Aux Return (FX Return): RCA inputs to return an external effect signal to the mix.

  • Phones Output: 1/4" stereo headphone output with its own level control.

  • 2-Track RCA Inputs: For connecting a playback device (e.g., smartphone, audio interface output).

  • 2-Track RCA Outputs: For recording the main mix to a device.

Monitoring & Metering:

  • Dual-Colored LED VU Meters: Monitor the output level for clipping.

  • Phones / Ctrl Room Source Switch: Allows you to choose what to listen to on headphones or control room outputs (main mix or 2-Track input).

The Behringer Xenyx 802 is a great, inexpensive, and robust analog mixer that offers surprisingly good preamps and EQ for its price. It does not have a built-in USB audio interface to connect directly to a computer for recording. You need an external audio interface to record the main output.
